Day 8: Pärnu-Tahkuranna (25 km)

Stage 8 of the Estonian Way of St. James starts from the Elizabeth Church in Pärnu and leads to the Apostolic Orthodox Church of the Dormition of Our Lady Tahkuranna . The trail leads out of the city along the Pärnu coast. Partly you can follow the signs of the Baltic coastal hiking trail. You can have lunch in the Eagle restaurant at Pärnu Golf Club (10 km) or have a picnic in Uulu on the pier and in the rose garden (which is established in honor of the Tsar’s Alexander III visit in 1880) (buy food from Pärnu) or in the café in Uulu (in shop building, 17 km from Pärnu). The path leads to the former Uulu Lutheran Church, which today is touristic site. In the afternoon the trail continues in pine forest and after Metsaküla cemetery goes back towards sea, passing the statue dedicated to the birthplace of the head of state Konstantin Päts. Just before the church trail passes the Tahkuranna mansion which is privately owned. Accommodation is available at Tahku Tare Community Center (will be opened in 2023 again) or in private accommodation near the Tahkuranna Apostolic Orthodox Church (check Booking.com).
